Introduction

The R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company (“RR Donnelley”) Disability Benefit Program (the “Program”) provides coverages to help protect against the loss of earnings should you become disabled and unable to work because of a covered short-term or long-term non-occupational illness or injury. (If you have an approved Workers’ Compensation claim, you may be eligible for long-term disability benefits.)

As long as you are eligible, the Program provides the following Company-paid coverages:

Short-Term Disability (STD); and

Long-Term Disability (LTD).

It is important that you know how the Program works. Be sure to read all of the benefit information available, and ask questions so that you fully understand both the STD and the LTD components of this Program.

This information, together with the Plan Summaries, is the Summary Plan Description (SPD) for the Program. These pieces explain your STD and LTD coverages as of January 1, 2006 (unless noted otherwise). The information in this SPD is intended to serve as a summary of the Program. Because insurance coverage is provided through a group insurance contract with the claims administrator, the claims administrator has developed Plan Summaries to describe the coverage available to you under the Program. These Plan Summaries are included with this content.

The SPD explains your STD and LTD coverages. It details who is eligible for coverage, when coverage begins and ends, the benefits provided, how to apply for a benefit, and your rights under the Program. Please read this information to familiarize yourself with both coverages offered under the Program.

The Plan document for the Program is entitled the “R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company Group Benefits Plan” (“Group Benefits Plan”). It governs the Program and includes additional details on how the Program operates.

Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (“MetLife”) is the claims administrator for the Program.

You are eligible for coverage under the Program only if you are an employee of a participating employer or subsidiary. As you review this information, along with the Plan Summaries, be sure to check the eligibility information to determine if the Program’s STD and LTD coverages apply to you. If you are an employee of an employer or subsidiary that does not participate in the Group Benefits Plan, you are not eligible for the benefits described in this SPD. If you have a question about the Program, contact the eligibility administrator.

This SPD and any other supplemental information attempt to be as complete, accurate, and up-to-date a description as possible of your coverages under the Program. However, this summary is based on the Plan document and insurance contracts. If there is any discrepancy between this SPD versus the disability insurance contracts, the insurance contracts always govern. You should not rely on any oral description of the Group Benefits Plan or benefits, because the insurance contracts always govern.

In addition, nothing in this SPD should be interpreted as an employment contract. This summary merely describes the coverages offered to eligible employees as of January 1, 2006. RR Donnelley reserves the right to change or terminate the Group Benefits Plan or Program, in whole or in part, at any time.

This content contains a summary in English of your rights and benefits under the Program. If you have difficulty understanding any part of this content, call the RR Donnelley Benefits Center at 1-877-RRD-4BEN (1-877-773-4236). Benefits Center Representatives are available between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday, except holidays.
